Welcome to Joy Cottage, your peaceful getaway from metro life! This newly renovated and furnished Zen house, designed with inspiration from the wabi-sabi aesthetic, is nestled within a tranquil Buddhist temple retreat in the Catskills. Revel in this unique experience with family or friends while enjoying a calm and blissful break from the busy city. During your stay you have full access to visit and explore the temple retreat.
For our fellow nature lovers, there are multiple hiking and walking trails in the nearby area. We are also in the process of developing our very own nature trail throughout the retreat.
The space
Joy Cottage opens up to a gorgeous view of our East Pond, home to a variety of wildlife and a man-made island with a Buddha statue and waterfall. All five private bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms. Three of the bedrooms face the pond. One of the bedrooms has an independent entrance and cannot be accessed from the main part of the house.
The large dining area features a large table that seats up to 8 people. There is a full kitchen with a refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave, toaster, pressure cooker, dishwasher, and just about everything else you need including cookware and silverware.
Enjoy the serene views while sipping coffee or tea on the front or back patio. The Joy Cottage features a Keurig K-Duo Coffee Maker with the option for a single serve or 12-cup carafe. K-Pods are included. We suggest bringing creamer and desired sweeteners. We also provide a large assortment of teabags with our tea kettle. We also provide a pour-over coffee maker, coffee not included.
Other conveniences include central air conditioning, a laundry room, plenty of closet space, and areas for storage. Wi-Fi is available throughout the house. Shampoo, conditioner, and hand soap are all provided.
Guest access
Guests may visit all the temples at our retreat during open hours.
Other things to note
Self Check-In time is 4-8pm. Check-Out time is 11am. The Joy Cottage is located in a remote area, it gets quite dark here after sunset, so we recommend arriving before 8pm.
Since we are located in a highly dense wooded area, you may encounter wild animals including but not limited to woodpeckers, raccoons, squirrels, deer, and bears. For your safety and theirs, please leave the animals alone and simply enjoy the wonders of nature.
